I began this painting intending to enter it in Columbia Art League's show, Night and Day, held at the beginning of the year. I didn't finish it in time for the submission deadline but I like how it turned out in the end. It probably wouldn't have turned out the same if I had pushed myself to meet the deadline.
The inspiration for this piece comes from a photo I took during a camping trip with Levi's family. I took quite a few shots of the moon over the lake, then used my favorite as a reference for the painting. I used strips of newspaper, a little big of gouache, watercolor, acrylic and charcoal. I still have to finish this up a bit, but it's mostly complete; now I just need to find a new show with a new deadline!
