Working on a pattern from my Uppercase magazine title page I created for MATS A class.
Working on a repeat pattern. Using artwork I originally created for my sister's graduation announcement.
Lilla Roger's self paced MATS A class had a surprise live review assignment in which we were asked to create a cover title page for the second edition of Uppercase Magazine's Surface Pattern Design Guide. Lilla and Janine Vangool, publisher, editor and designer of Uppercase Magazine, would select from the class gallery and review pieces for the class. I loved the theme and magazine title page concept. Magazine design and editorial illustration is so fun! Above is my final piece. I used illustrations I had originally created for my Botanical Sketchbook pattern shown below.
It was fun experimenting with the photographic elements with the line drawings. I liked playing and mixing these two themes together. The line drawings were based a lot on my pressed flowers collection shown below.
I designed a cookbook for my sister's Dietetics class! It's called Simple Foods Made from Your Own Backyard, a collection of tasty recipes and nutritional advice given to patients and clients during their supervised practical experiences working in the field of dietetics. I started out in publishing and layout design so this was really fun to do again. I hadn't ever designed a cookbook before either.
The cookbook is partnered with the Opportunity Gardens Program through the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture to help give back to their community with healthy recipes and nutritional education.
Everyone in the University of Missouri 2016 Dietetics class contributed a recipe and many took the photographs of the recipes themselves that are shown in the book. To see the cookbook in it's entirety check out the online publication here.
